Fair Trade

Fair Trade is an alternative trading system that provides sustainable employment opportunities to marginalized artisans and farmers in developing countries. With the income they receive, they are able to pay for the basic necessities of life.

Fair Trade means many things to artisans around the world. It means a new start for refugees of political violence, hope for women who have been part of the sex trade, and support for those suffering from HIV/AIDS. To all of them it means a living wage, work with dignity, and hope for the future. It provides a measure of social justice for those who have been exploited by a global economic system where profit comes before people.

This is why Fair Trade is so important. Buying Fair Trade is one way you can use your power as a consumer to change the world. Every product tells a story that is as unique as the artisan who made it. Let their stories inspire your purchases.

Your purchase makes a difference in the lives of people around the world!

Principles of Fair Trade

Just in time for World Fair Trade Day, our Executive Director, Joan Frisz, was on a podcast diving deeper into how the Fair Trade system works!
"We want people to understand that we are not just a purveyor of goods," Frisz said. "There are people behind our products and your purchase makes a difference in their lives."
