Sadle Trading

Located in Bhaktapur, Sadle creates environmentally sustainable products from materials such as hemp, no kill leather and recycled rubber inner tubes.  It was founded in 1984 and currently works with 30 jewelers and tailors.  Sadle is the oldest and largest exporter in Nepal and works to source all of its raw materials from Nepal, which in turn, supports the local economy.  This producer group is very committed to breaking down caste barriers and religious differences between employees, so that everyone is treated equally, the working environment is harmonious, and every individual is well paid.

Ram Bahadur was born in Chitwan (which is 140 km away from Kathmandu) and he now lives near Thamal in Kathmandu. He has a family of 5, 1 son and 4 daughters who are now all grown. Ram Bahadur is a pattern master and fabric cutting master, but can also act as a tailor if he is called to. Tailoring has been in Ram's family for more then 4 centuries. He first began to tailor when he was 15 years old and learned from his father. In turn he has taught this trade to his son and 3 of his daughters. Being able to work at Sadle has given him the ability to buy a nice piece of land and build a fair sized house on it, as well as send his children to school.
