Located in the remote Northern regions of Dhading district in Nepal, Sertung women lacked educational opportunities, but worked hard using traditional farming techniques. After planting they wait six month to get the crop, but lacked income generating work. Following the devastating earthquake of April 2015, members of the Fair Trade community were determined to provide economic opportunity to women in this village. The materials used to make the products by Sertung Artisans are primarily recycled and are transported on the backs of the villagers over a two day mountain trek to their community. Despite a lack of tools and electricity that create obstacles to producing products, they work to support the women of the community by combining simple skill with beautiful detail to make a variety of products.
